As I started with this piece I came up with something really small, tiny bits and scraps, then using more canvas and more paint – it started to unfold into something bigger, like a tender/sensitive plantshoot – so I kept going, in between it seemed to be a challenge, so I took the risk, I felt like losing, but I kept on going until it felt right, not thinking too much – it was about the form, it was about value, was about temperature, was about size – and about searching. It became a structure. While working I made short notes, short thoughts – and at the very end – it was all there. Art doesn't need anything, but we need art to think about life, to connect to our collective memory, how it shapes our attitudes, emotions and identity.
